[Ham-Computers] Linux question

Greetings.  My turn for a question :-)

Do any of you know if it is possible to install RedHat 9 (Linux 2.4.20-6)
on a motherboard it claims is unsupported?  In reality, it is fine just
old.  It is an ASUS SP97-V motherboard with an AMD K6/300 CPU currently
running RH 7.1 (Linux 2.4.2-?).

To make this ham related, I'm looking to make this machine a time server
by connecting it up to my GPS time/frequency standard.  The frequency
standard I used with my test equipment to keep all my ham equipment running
and aligned properly.
