Hi,

I expect the following is part of an ongoing set of issues related to =
133 MHz Memories in a 100 MHz bus systems. Other trouble shooting which =
has tangibly helped includes regular use of the Regclean program and use =
of utilities that gut all the spyware and trojan crud. Here is my =
currecnt dilemma, and I would prefer to confine my question and the =
responses to this precise problem, as I am neither equipped nor =
qualified to dig very deep or broadly. With thanks in advance, here it =
is:

Having stabilized the computer through several means offered right here =
on this list, there was a single hit the other day that started with =
"unable to write to disk", followed immediately with "fatal error" etc =
etc. Amazingly, having cleaned up the registry, etc, the auomated front =
end of Win98 SE (with service packs and updates through that day) were =
able to catch the disk crash issues, run scandisk, clear up the problems =
and come to a clean boot. That in itself is equivalent to the discovery =
of electricity compared to the computer's behavior just a week ago (pre =
cleanups).

I find everything aok except Outlook Express. I have, in my experience, =
a large # of email boxes for all the stock stuff, ebay sort-downs, and =
about 80 email lists. All my email lists are gone, all the ebay is =
gone, the inbox is present and untouched, the sent box is present, but =
empty, etc etc. Obviously, a registry entry got wacked.

I searched for a while for rescue info, but found none, so, just to get =
running, I have recreated the mailboxes by hand and reassociated the =
message rules, which were untouched but without their mailboxes. Voila, =
the entire system began working from scratch just fine.

I have now found all the "missing' mailboxes in the =
c:\windows\applications data\information\blah blah bla\microsoft\outlook =
express\<mailbox files> directory. Sounds great, but two issues: =20

First, I manually reconstructed the mailbox system, so Windows has, as =
it is supposed to, listed all my recreations as <filename1.dbx> as the =
doppleganger for <filename.dbx>. If I were to find a way to recover and =
meld all this stuff, how would I append my newer messages in my =
recreated boxes onto my original "gone missing" messages.

Second, I am aware of but not fluent with the Outlook Express =
backup/transfer-to-new-computer utilities...do any of these have such =
facilities?

My thanks in advance for any suggestions. Also, note I am going to be =
trying true 100MHz memory on the 100MHz bus and will report results over =
time...I am beginning to NOT believe the "hey, no problem, the memory =
auto-clocks" blab at Fry's.

best regards to all

John Collins
