[Ham-Computers] Possible Virus??

Greetings to the list,

Recently, while taking "Inventory" of some pictures I've
Saved in JPG format, I noticed that some of them were
"converted" to COM files. (This has happened twice)

I solved the problem by using the REN command in DOS,
and "converted" them back to JPG files. (Win 98 SE w/all
updates)

Suspecting a Virus, I made sure all updates were in place,
(AVG 7.0 Pro) and ran a complete scan, and two online
scans, and no virus was found.

This is on top of Running Ad Aware, and checking my system
registry  with a fine tooth comb.

Although this happened a backup computer, I'm more puzzled
then concerned.

Any theories?
