Thanks Dwight,

Sounds like you're pretty good w/Win...

You bring to mind a problem I ran into when removing
an Ethernet card from a neighbors computer because
it was sharing/conflict with the same IRQ as the
modem (IRQ-11). Actually TWO problems, the second
being that when the e3 card drivers where deleted,
they evidently took some needed drivers/protocols
that were needed by NetZero app', so that's refusing
to operate beyond dialing the modem and connecting.
(no tcp/ip comms, tried to re-ins TCP/IP but no disk)

The OS (Win98) had originally been installed with
the e3 card installed and w/o the modem there.

After the e3 card was removed and the support in
the 'device manager' deleted and system rebooted,
and we STILL had problems, I went in to attempt
a change of the modem to another IRQ, but even
after un-checking the 'auto' selection the OS
would NOT let me modify the IRQ resource.
(popped up the 'can not change' message box)

Any thoughts as to WHY this didn't work ?

I'm not sure if the modem has 'jumpers' but I'm
guessing it does NOT, as it's a PCI card (I my-
self haven't been into the case (yet), the neigh-
bor was the one that removed the hardware).

My plan is to wipe the HD and re-install the OS
(but I'm going to show him Lunux and OS/2 first ;).
but this is going to require that he BUY the M$
disks as he wasn't provided any with the system.
(bought it from a computer 'recycler')

Thanks,
         Bruce
