How long has it been since you defragged your HD ?
I assume you're using WinDohs, so the only solution
may be to re-install the complete operating system.
Even the WinDohs experts recommend that you reboot
the OS at least once a day or more, and reinstall
the OS once a year or so.

Btw, if you want "Superior Firepower" you should
probably get rid of that whimpy OS (if you are
indeed running windohs) and make the change to
something that will run for weeks, months on end
with no lock-ups and without having to shutdown
and reboot every other day, or re-install the OS
every 6 mo to a year or two.  JMHO
