Also I believe the "power remaining" indicators can not really sense life
left in a battery.  They can only sense voltage and estimate.  You have
enough voltage to show 40%, but under load it is gone and it shuts down.
Like the car battery that say 13.8V but goes to 7v when you try to start the
car.  It is shot, at least enough cells to cause the unit to shut down, but
all would be close.

Sounds to me like that battery is shot. My Girl Friends' Compaq does
about the same thing. i tdoesn;t charge all the way and the battery runs
down from a full charge in about 20 miuntes....I have been looking for a
new pbattery for it and be prepared to pay about 90 - 120 dolloars for a
battery. Course if anyone here knows where to get on cheaper, please let
us know. I need to get one. Thanks.
