Greetings,
I’ve been a member of this fine group since “magical” Duane was our Moderator. My first radio was an SX-28 that I bought in 1966 for $50. I also worked for 7 years at the final location of Hallicrafters in Rolling Meadows (Chicago) long after it was acquired by Northrop. As such, I have a close fondness for the brand.

Trying to determine if there is any interest for some rare Hallicrafters (and other) radio equipment for local pickup (only) in Orange, CA (So. Calif). NOTE: His XYL is NOT able to accommodate lifting, packing and shipping (sorry).

My good friend (Frank - W6LPU) joined Duane a few years ago at age 92 during COVID😥. Unbeknownst to me, his XYL donated many old radio items to a local Ham Club. Oddly, they left a few treasures behind in his old horse stable that was converted 20 years ago to a Ham Shack. Most notable are an SX-28A, two speakers (one is Hallicrafters for sure), two S27s, HT-37, SX-117, Signal Corps Army BC-1031-C Panadapter, TU-17-A transmitter tuning unit, Yaesu FL2100, Dentron Super Antenna Tuner and many other misc items.

The good news is that the remaining items are priced to sell quickly ($100 or less). The bad news is that the stable has a bad roof and is dirty & musty. None of the equipment was covered since Frank was confined to a wheelchair since 2017. I visited from Michigan last month to pay my respects and took a walk down the hill to the stable that was once vibrant with his glowing radios.

Their operating condition is unknown so they are priced accordingly as “parts only”.

I am posting since it would be sacrilegious to commit these precious remnants to a dumpster😥. If there is interest then please let me know if I can post photos here on this site that I took during my brief visit.

Thanks in advance for any responses either here or privately to my email address noted on QRZ dot com. Frank’s address is also noted on QRZ.

Thanks in advance and best 73,

Mike

The object is to encourage restoration, operation and enjoyment of this older Classic equipment. You need not operate a Classic rig to participate in the CX. You may use any rig in the contest although new gear is a distinct scoring disadvantage as your multipliers are directly related to the age of the equipment you use! However, you can still work the "great ones" with modern equipment.
