I recently acquired a pretty rough Hallicrafters S38 receiver, no suffix. I didn't want to see it go to landfill.
I've been going through it assessing what I need to do and noticed that the antenna transformer (coil) T1 has a cooked winding.
It appears to be the MW or top band coil, anyway its all hanging off loose and is a bit of a mess.
I don't think I'm able to rewind it or salvage the coil.
Apart from obviously needing to replace the coil, what would cause this to happen?
Shorted capacitor somewhere?
I wish people wouldn't plug old stuff like this in to "test it" it just seems to just do more damage.
Especially here in Australia where we have 240 volt mains.

Regards
