[Hallicrafters] Cleaning

All good suggestions. Everyone has their favorite but generally you want to avoid any cleaners on the harsher end for delicate painted surfaces. Anything with ammonia will usually cause problems on delicate screen printed letters, numbers and witness marks and lines, etc. Things like dial scales and calibrated slide rule dial windows can sometimes even be damaged with just hot water, but may be perfectly OK with cold water. You just have to test what you're thinking of using on parts from a parts set or absent that, in an inconspicuous area. Generally speaking diluted Dawn dish detergent works well for a lot of this. The harsher more aggressive cleaners do have their place in other areas such as cleaning a really dirty chassis or cabinet. I often use an oxidizer like Industrial grade 409 mixed 50-50 with ammonia in a plastic sprayer bottle for the tough jobs but let experience be your guide before you grab that one. Simple Green for Aircraft is another good one as is WD40 sometimes. Even very nasty Easy Bake Spray Oven Cleaner but you have to know what you are doing with things like that. For example certain metal platings will react with it while others will not, they'll just get clean but you have to be careful and know before hand what is about to happen when you apply it.
