If it's like most movie props for Hallicrafters, it will be used to contact his emperor on the planet Zorchron.
Oh, and maybe even as a time transporter, (But, only if it had that option installed.)

Commando Cody was very fond of SX-43's.  He had several of them (upside down!) on his spaceship. 

Sky-King however appeared to properly use an SX-42 and what looked like an HT-20 for a  (HF?) ranch to plane comm-link.
He even had the mike plugged into the right jack!.
