[Hallicrafters] License question.

Yes, I have been Googling it since I posted (yes, should have done it in
opposite order) and I do see that it was a "thing" from about 1923 to 1929
or later. My father (W8CPW, then W9RDW, now SK) referred to it
occasionally and the question has been rattling around my cranium for
decades. I actually came across his Extra First License while going
through some papers a few years back. Perhaps the oddest thing is that Dad
had a tough time trying to get an Extra in the 1960's and ultimately failed
due to penmanship on the 20 WPM test. Like me he was limited by writing
speed. Apparently the Extra First was not as big a deal as the modern
Extra. I see references to it being good for AM operation on higher
frequencies without a CW upgrade, but I also see other references to 20WPM
test to get it. This was going on about the same time as the switch from
Commerce Dept to FCC and that may account for changes. Anyway, thanks to
all. 73, Rich

PS: Think I'll frame it.
