[Hallicrafters] S-85 Sensitivity Control

I went through several manuals for the S-85 and its nearly
identical predecessors the S-40, S-40A and S-40B. The pot is
mis-identified in one Sams book as a 500K pot rated at 1 watt. I think
this is meant to be the volume control. In another book its listed as
10K, 1/2 watt but the schematic number is wrong. This schematic has
several items all with the same number. However, I think you would be
safe with a 1/2 watt pot or, if there is room, a 1 watt wold be better.
The pot is in the cathodes of three stages, none of which draw much
current plus when the pot is at minimum resistance it grounds the line
and at maximum the tubes are running near cut-off so there is very
little current.
The differences between the S-85 and S-40B seem to be mostly
cosmetic. Hallicrafters sure got a lot of milage out of this basic
circuit which dates at least as far back as the S-20R.
