[Hallicrafters] Experience with CB-5?

Hello All,

Mike Bittner W6MAB has very kindly sent me the schematic for the
Hallicrafters CB-5, a Citizens Band 6 channel AM transceiver that puts out 5
watts.

I don't own one. My interest in it is as a battery powered homebrew QRP
transmitter circuit for CW and AM phone. Of course it uses tubes for the
transmitter section, but they are the miniature battery tubes 3A4
oscillator, and a pair of 3B4's in parallel in the final, for a full QRP
"gallon" of 5 watts. Being a confirmed "glowbugger" from "back in the day"
it looks nifty.

My question: Does anyone have any experience with this particular rig on AM,
or a similar one that only puts out 5 watts? I tend to think of 20 watts as
the appropriate QRP output for AM, and 5 watts seems awfully small,
especially for use on the lower bands.

73,
