I learned a long time ago NEVER to send an original anything to anyone if you ever expect to see it again. Make the copies yourself and keeop the original in your possession.

Subject: Re: [Hallicrafters] [Hammarlund] HX-500
The HX-500 was designed to compete with the HT-32 whereas the HX-50 was
designed to compete with the HT-37. Normal production of the HX-500 ended
in 1962 but on a visit to Mars Hill in 1964 I saw a whole line of HX-500's
on a table. Bob Belknap, Hammarlund Marketing Manager, explained they were
sold under contract to a South American Country. I did not get to look at
them close up to see what modifications (if any) had been done for the
contract. I assume they were several times the amateur price per unit.
I got a complete Manual for the HX-500 from W4AMJ in 1994 and made a copy of
it but the original was shipped to a VE1 who promised to copy and send back
to me. I never did get the original back although I tried several times. I
have several more original Hammarlund manuals that I am holding on to and
won't make that mistake again.
There is a HX-500 on the bay with a price tag of $1750.
