> Hi Peter, One of the influences came from the "communications centers" of ships and military command centers. Multiple receivers were fed to audio distribution networks. That allowed the radio operators, who were skilled in radio ops, to provide what was needed to the proper command levels. As late as the 60's flying radar connies on the north Atlantic barrier the radioman still controlled the radio equipment. The pilots, navigators and radar officers could mess things up in a heart beat. In my shack I have a master speaker, second monitor speaker and an audio panel to switch between rigs.
> I shot down the argument that it was just USA companies (which was the original beef, aimed at the Lafayette HA-600), pointing out that Eddystone (UK) STC and Kingsley (Aust) also followed the practice.
