Hi Chris:
Haven't done a serial number analysis on the SX-117. Always went to the under chassis.
If anyone has please post a note --- would be interested.
Kindest regards Jim K9AXN

Hi Jim,
Well, I was reading your post and you got my attention with this info. :-)
Is there a way to determine the EC level of my 117 w/o opening the radio in
order to compare actual parts used to the various EC level schematics? My
SN is 249013 and the chassis has the typical stamped black ink number. My
chassis is stamped: 119249B. Is the "B" suffix the EC level?
Thanks,
Chris

Luis:
This may be of interest to you:
If you are interested in the EC level of your SX-117, go to www.k9axn.com
and go to SCHEMATICS. Near the bottom, you will find schematics that
represent the five EC levels (A thru E) of the SX-117.
You can update your radio if you feel it important or even remove some
changes.
I prefer the removal of one change. If you have an SX-117 that is the "C"
level or better, you will find that the S-meter sees things that are not
audible. The AGC band width is much wider that the signal bandwidth.
The "C" to "D" change significantly improves the strong signal adjacent
frequency de-sensing. Does the radio need this change? I have never
experienced De-sensing so I remove just the "B" to "C" AVC sense change.
With that the S-meter functions as I am accustomed, it moves when there is
something that is audible.
This is simply my personal preference. All of the other changes that
represent the "E" level are worth installing.
A super day to you ---- Kindest regards Jim K9AXN
