Have you tried a new oscillator tube?  Could also be the mixer but the oscillator is the most likely.

Hello all... I hope someone can offer me some guidance, since I've spent way too much time unsuccessfully trying to figure this out on my own.

I am almost finished restoring a beautiful Hallicrafters SX-99 (including replacing all caps, etc.). It works great on bands 1-2-3; but band 4 only partially works. The low end of the band works fine but as you tune higher it goes dead. Specifically, on Band 4, below around 15 MHz, it works perfectly. But, at about 15 Mhz (and above) it does not receive (from around 15 to 30 Mhz.). ... at these higher frequencies the receiver has normal background noise but will not pick up anything from my signal generator (or antenna).  I didn't pay much attention to this receiver's performance before I started the restoration and don't know if this problem was the result of my restoration. Since it works well while tuning across the other bands (the entire band), my thinking is that this should not be a Tuning cap. problem... But maybe I'm wrong.

Any ideas?

Thanks, Wayne

Non-Hallicrafters Oriented, but....

Has anyone a knob, single knob for an RCA Radiola 16?

This is the knob on the left and operates a rheostat or current adjusting
coil. It is a Bakelite with metallic center and set screw... it is not a
push on as in the Radiola 17 or other. The photo below is from a seller, but
he fails to show the underside and they are $50 the pair!

This was a "free" radio, it will not be a $50+ radio.

This list doesn't support attachments.

Post a link to the picture.

Just from the pictures on-line, that knob looks similar, if not identical, to the knobs used on some of the later Radiolas. The issue may be that the Radiola 16 is relatively scarce, at least compared to the plentiful later models like the Radiolas 17, 18 and 60, so if the knob you need is the same as the knobs on these more plentiful later models, you'll have a better chance of getting one cheap.

Mike Koste is the guy to see for knobs. Scroll down the page on this link and you'll get his email address.

Another guy who might be able to help is Sonny Clutter. His webpage (w/contact info) is:

I hope this helps.
