     Not long ago someone on a list I belong to offered a 
freebee if you paid shipping. I don't even remember what it 
was but something small. I found the same thing  you did, I 
went to the USPS on line calulator and got back something 
like $50 cheapest. I thought I had worked the calculator 
wrong. For some reason I think it used to be a lot cheaper 
and not way back when either.  It makes the cost of an 
ordinarly letter seem cheap in comparison.
