It costs my wife about $14 to send a hand towel to relatives in Germany via
first class international mail last Christmas and took three weeks to
arrive! The towel couldn't have cost more than $4.00. This is ridiculous
but if I didn't send I'd have been called Scrooge.
Even the little cassette mailers that I use to send out the spun aluminum
inlays to Europe costs a minimum of $6.55. No wonder I don't sell many $3
inlays overseas.
It's very frustrating since most buyers have no idea just how expensive
shipping is out of the states.
I just went to the USPS website and plugged in a 2 pound package to
Australia. Cost to ship via priority mail from Virginia? $45.75.
A small flat rate box is $24.75. There doesn't seem to be any reasonable
alternatives

Hi Peter,
Yes, shipping has become very expensive even here in the USA!
I did a check on what it would be to ship that mike USPS International Flat
Rate in the small flat rate box which is 1 5/8" thick, perhaps a tad thin
but should be OK though a small risk for damage. The rate was $24.75. I then
checked the medium rate box and it was $61.50! Another possibility was self
packing at 2 pounds weight and it was $45.00. A padded flat rate envelope
was also $24.75.
While on the surface it seems outrageous and perhaps feeling like you are
being gouged, it doesn't seem so.

Has anyone in the group got any theories on why is would cost
US$48.25 to send a normal sized microphone to Australia from the USA?
I would have thought an item like this would be slipped in a padded
post-it bag, shouldn't be anymore than $5>$10.
I've actually stopped buying from USA at the moment.
You should have seen what someone in the USA was charging to post a
single crystal to VK land, another obvious rip-off.
I've emailed the seller to query the postage price, however I'm not
expecting a positive outcome, my experience in the past has been
"that's the price, take it or leave it".
The item is a Drake 1525EM DTMF microphone, the link is:

I would send a screen grab of the Australian pricing, but I know it
won't get through the mailman.
It's just getting plain stupid!
