David Sarnoff, of RCA, basically hated Bill Halligan, of
Hallicrafters, and refused to grant Hallicrafters a license
to use the Hazeltine patents. To get a license, Halligan
purchased Echophone and Sarnoff could not do anything to
prevent the license transfer from taking place.

Well, RCA did this to a lot of smaller companies so I
wonder if it was based on any sort of personal dislike. When
RCA was founded by General Electric they bought out the
American Marconi company and most of the executive staff of
the new company were just moved over from Marconi. Marconi
was very strongly oriented toward being an international
monopoly; the executives from Marconi wanted to make RCA a
monopoly and did their best to accomplish it. If you have
any citations about Sarnoff and Halligan I would be glad to
have them, RCA history is one of my special interests.
