Let me try it again:  http://ppinyot.com/if_transformers.htm  I just tried this new link on my computer and it works. If it doesn't work, please let me know. The problem with your IFs is pretty common with radios from the '50s so don't feel bad.

Thanks, Joe. When I get around to the S53A, I have switches and pots to clean as well as caps to change. No Hum eminating from audio.  I hope it is not the IF cans unless I can find replacement parts. I used to just change the cans in the old "all American fives". Will keep you informed. 73, John, K5PGW

Here's a link to an article on the repair process:  http://ppinyot.com/if_transformers.htm  You can download the manual for the S-53A for free: http://bama.edebris.com/manuals/hallicra/s53a/

I also suspect a dirty/defective  sensitivity and/or audio gain control. Volume is very low but there is no AC hum. I
