Hey, lemme kick the horse too.

Yep, a novel idea to use the post WW-II Slinky toy - actually was a method 
to keeping plastic & canvas piping from collapsing (war use).  There were 
hundreds of thousands of 'em in a warehouse, bought by an enterprising chap 
who repackaged them and it was an instant hit with kids (I'm one).  Later, 
the US Military had a "field expedient" antenna, using two of them.  Yeah, 
they work, but are very, very inductively reactive, so getting a good match 
isn't always a slam-dunk.  Ahhh, but as I've been oft' quoted - there are 
two schools of antenna design - "ARRL Perfect", and "real life"
