The SX-24 is probably OK on 160-80-40 meters, but a mite deaf on Band 4.

It's a bit easier to align than the SX-25, since there's only one RF stage to worry with and so the tracking problem is less formidable.

Restoring an SX-24, however, is a good learning-curve for doing an SX-25.


In case you weren't aware, the SX-24 begat the SX-99 and SX-110.  Same basic design.  I'm sure some earlier Halli model was morphed into the SX-24 (the SX-15 perhaps?) but the lineage escapes me at the moment.

But you're right... I'm going to say it:  "Use the HRO."  There is no comparison.
