     The Sam's Photofact has the information as do the more 
elaborate Hallicrafters service manuals.
   The LO is set _above_ the signal frequency for bands 1,2, 
3 and _below_ the signal frequency on band 4, the highest 
band.  This is so for the S-40 series and also the S-20R.
