I used to use automotive belt dressing on the rubber paper pick-ups in a 
4000 series HP laser printer.  I don't know what HP used to make them 
but they wore smooth rather quickly.  A shot of belt dressing on a Q tip 
applied to the pick-up would last for a couple of months.
