I rather suspect that the bandspread stringing information
found in the original, "military style" manual for the
S-40 -- is the real thing. This manual is much more
complete than any other Halli civilian manual ever, for any
model.
This manual is on BAMA.

I'm not sure I have this manual, I'll look for it. I
suspect that _if_ some capacitors were set up the wrong way
it was either an error in production or some sort of short
term change. The band spread capacitor in my S-40A can run
either way. There is a stop pin which is a press-in and
could have been reversed at some point. My receiver was
missing a ball bearing from the band spread capacitor so
someone must have played with it. It works as is and its a
lot of work to restring the dial so I think I will leave it
alone. I was just curious if any other receivers were the
same way and also I wonder about the range of the band
spread dial; on this receiver it stops at about 95 and my
S-20R is about the same. I wonder if others with these RX
would look.
