[Hallicrafters] S-40 and S-40A dial string

Some time ago I restored an S-40A. I discovered the
band spread capacitor rotated in the opposite direction than
others I've seen and opposite the cap in my S-20R. In order
to make the band spread dial run in the right direction it
was necessary to cross over the cords. I "fixed" this by
pulling the stop pin from the cap and reversing it. However,
while the dial cord now runs as the diagram in the handbooks
show the band spread dial stops at about 95 instead of going
to 100. Of course, it does the same think in my S-20R so
maybe that's how its supposed to work.
A picture of the insides of an S-40 in an old QST seems
to show the crossed over dial cord. Its a pretty low
resolution picture so I can't be sure. What I would like is
for those with S-40 and S-40A receivers to have a look
inside to see which way the band spread capacitor and dial
string run. What I suspect is that both arrangements were
used at various times.
I asked this before, not sure if on this list, but am
trying it again. If the arrangement before I "fixed" it is
correct I will restore it.
