A good item for the test bench, especially for hot-chassis receivers, is an
ISOLATION xfmr. Typically, they're pretty "proud" of them on the market,
but not wishing to insult anybody's intelligence, if you need one, just find
a couple old UPS units, or as I did - used a pair of 8a 24vac xfmrs from old
fire alarm control panels (I see a lot of them). Simply connect the LV
sides together, and pick an end to use for INPUT and OUTPUT - maybe a fuse,
and you're in business. Rich Post, WB8TAD, who shows off his fixed
boatanchors on a website, did this using matching UPS units - they're really
cheap, have matching transformers and provide a readily emptied case, with
outlets ALREADY mounted. A lot cheaper than a "pretty" one from a dealer.
