Good evening Roy:

Variac gets my vote --- simple, elegant, completely variable. Haven't heard
of one hurting equipment except when you spill your beer into it or the
pooch mistakes it for a fire plug. Oh --- forgot, tell the kids that its
not a road race game --- right turns are real bad -- they think the smoke
they see is from a burning alien vehicle. They can't believe how real
Grandpas games are.

Truth be told, I use them on every bench and a 50A in front of the shop---
love-em.

Kindest regards Jim K9AXN

AND, if you have a small variac, you can run the bucking transformer
on IT, and have a small, smoothly variable solution to the problem.
Add a voltmeter and you have the cats meow.
