Hi Carl, ah.....yes. Herb Gordon. W1IBY. Been to his place quite a few times when I lived about 15 miles away.
Years later, I realized the 'connection' that involved Fort Devens and the PILES of R390s he had. There was an R-390 school there at the time. I have some of the pubs....
I remember one particular Saturday, I went there to buy a National NCX-5 he was selling cheap. Seemed they were acquired from National due to 'flood damage' or some other reason. Anyway, his health had started to deteriorate, and I asked him what he was going to do ith all that inventory when he got out of the ham business.
He replied..."gonna take the entire @#$%^&* mess to the dump in Harvard (Mass.) and bulldoze it in!!!".
wow! I believe he had some sort of sewing machine import/export business at the time also.
You probably could fill in the blanks in my memory.....

I had Radio Row in NYC to keep me happy for a few years and then after
ettling up this way the Boston area had several places to crawl thru,
eshna, Heffrons, DeMambro, Herb Gordon, Evans, Graham, etc. National also
eld several employee only sales or auctions.
I have a bunch of old RS catalogs and flyers going back to the 60's that I
hould dump on Fleabay, might get enough for a few gallons of gas anyway.

I did as I'm sure many others did in the day. My trips were to Allied Radio
on N Western Ave in Chicago and H+H on Kishwaukee St in Rockford, Il, (a
ham radio store).

Man, can you imagine walking into a store and being able to buy all those
great sets (and parts) at those prices?
