Can someone with a 300 tell me, say on 80 or 40M the S meter reading from the internal calibrator?
My new 300 MK II had a bad  RX RF amp MosFET (Q501). I socketed and replaced the device with a 3N201 which brought the RX back to life but I don't seem to be getting any gain out of that stage. I get more signal by connecting the antenna to the input of the first mixer than I do from the antenna jack.
Perhaps there are better substitutes for Q501- eg 40673? Even very strong signals rarely are above S9.
