Seems to me that an article appeared in QST within the last several 
years (maybe
2005 at earliest) about doing this quite nicely using clear plastic 
discs.  I
forget what the exact source of the discs was, but it has something to 
do with
CDs believe it or not; and they were so close to the correct size that 
the
difference isn't worth worrying about.  The article was probably in one 
of the
issues that features vintage radio.
