[Hallicrafters] Hallicrafters HT-11 "Ensign"

Hi All,

Haven't been on the list for a while due to other radios taking up my
time. I've just made a start on restoring an HT-11B marine
radiotelephone and am looking for some info on a modification that my
radio has. This is a added 6SN7GT octal valve under the chassis, with
what appear to be "period" components attached to the base, with some
wiring brought out to a standard jack socket on the side of the radio.
The 6SN7 base is mounted on two stand-off pillars. Oddly the jack isn't
accessible when the radio is in its cabinet, unlike the PA cathode
current jack under the tuning chart. I'm guessing that this is a field
mod by the USN, as the radio is badged as part of the MT-2 radio
telephone system, with a date in service of 1944, but what is for I've
no idea. I have a reprint handbook, but it's for the D and E models and
shows nothing about a 6SN7GT. I was wondering if it is some form of
noise-limiter but normally that would be a double diode, like a 6H6.

Any info or ideas appreciated!
