HMMM....I do this all, the time. My Xcelite Bristol's are about an inch
shorter than new. I just hold it between some leather backed channel-locks
so that about an eighth of an inch protrudes and grind it off with a medium
grit wheel. I then VERY lightly rotate the ground end against the side of
the wheel so that any roll-over burrs are gone. Works like a charm.
