I will agree also; attempting to operate vintage equipment with 60 or 70
year old engineering places one at a decided disadvantage unless we can get
the ARRL to lobby for an antiques only band segment and this is not to
mention the reliability concerns of old parts. Maybe this could be compared to
a devout old Ford enthusiast attempting to keep up with traffic in a
completely original 1934 Ford. As far as predicting future collector values the
market is a very fickle place. The muscle cars you mentioned peaked a while
back and are currently in decline while collectors are focusing their
attention once again toward the thirties. As far as equipment having nostalgic
value or practical value for user application how would one explain
astronomical prices for "Wireless" equipment? You can't use a Marconi Magnetic
Detector in the next AWA Old Equipment Contest and they usually sell in the
$20K- $30K range.

I agree with Todd about collecting. There were quite a few older hams here
that
collected model "A" fords, they became SK and the heirs sold the cars not
wanting them. If I was going for cars it would be the cars I lusted for
but
couldn't afford at the time iehemicuda, 68-69 chevelle etc.I have a nice
collection of radios but I still seem to always turn on my flex 5000.
Collecting
is a sickness and defies logic at times Howard KA6IOB
