[Hallicrafters] microphonics

HI John,

I have "heard" (before my time as a tech) that after the war and deep into the 50's that tube quality went down. With out the military paying high dollars for gear and parts the tube makers found it difficult producing a quality product for reasonable price. But here again as you said that was the fault of the tubes and not necessary a design flaw in the rigs.

  Hi Walt,

My Father bought a brand new S-38 when they hit the market after WW II. It was a "boing machine" right out of the box. He took it back and got another one in a factory sealed box and the problem was still there in that one, too. I have had many near new Hallicrafters receivers with the same problem. I believe it was a function of tube problems more than anything else.

  John, W4AWM
