You may be able to order wrinkle paint without the milspec designation for less. Tell them you want Harley Davidson wrinkle for the engine cases. if you want to see it, go to your local dealer and look at the Dyna series of bikes and see if this fits the bill.
The paint supply house can alter the amount of wrinkle additive to tighten or loosen the wrinkle and the gloss in the base. But this should be right on the money as is. Also the amount of wrinkle depends on the amount of heat you apply during curing.
The HD wrinkle is tough stuff and they have it at the dealer in rattle cans too but any auto paint shop should be able to mix quantity. One gallon should be able to do a gaggle of radios and you can maybe work a deal with other to sell off what you don't need. Buying it this way may be cheaper than stating milspec by a few bucks. Likely the Mil-specification is the reason for the price, being gov't
related, and the need for gov't to waste money faster than they can
print it.
The one gallon price is probably not too bad for someone running a
paint shop, who could paint a lot of cabinets at $50-$100 each out of
one gallon. The availability in more colors than basic black makes it
even more attractive.
