Not really enough to go on, however I can tell you this... Considering the
Hallicrafters business philosophy was to offer the most bang for the buck
the 1939 Skyrider 23 (SX-23) was a very radical departure for them but
lasted in the market for only about one year. SX-23 featured 8 bands (4 MT & 4
BS) and was adorned with period Art Deco Venetian blind styling and
included an unusual gray painted chassis, the only receiver chassis Hallicrafters
ever painted. In addition Hallicrafters made special gray covers for
everything inside and adorned each with a large decorative circled "H" stamped on
top. SX-23 also featured better quality mechanical construction than was
typical for Hallicrafters at the time. Hallicrafters had always been more
affordable than the competition because they used mostly broadcast grade
parts purchased in bulk but SX-23 was not your average Hallicrafters. They were
built at considerable expense which included time consuming hand picked
(and hand scraped) ceramic capacitors in the RF section to exact values. The
design must have been driven by the engineering team and proved to be
unprofitable which may be why they were dropped from the line-up soon
afterwards. Three SX-23s recently sold with all in about the same above average
condition and they all needed about the same usual expected restoration work.
Selling prices were all over the map: $400, $600 and $945.

There is an interesting story describing the engineering that went into
the SX-23 in a 1992 issue of Electric Radio (possibly July?)

Regards, Greg
