Mike:
In the 1935 callbook W4DSE had not been issued, the last 3 letter call showed issued was W4DHV. The next call book I have is 1941, which does not show it listed, but K4DSE is listed for a Puerto Rico station. Not list in the 1948 Callbook. Not listed in the 1952 Callbook. In 1957 it shows W4DSE issue to B. J. Smith, Montgomery, Ala. In 1958, it shows unissued. In 1962 & 1963, it shows unissued, but WA4DSE had been issued. I skipped ahead to 1996, and it shows unissued. You may be the second holder of the call. Ron, W6QM.

They did research it, and found listings from Fall 1954 through Summer 1955, in Montgomery, AL. I might conclude that this could have been someone at Maxwell AFB who got this unused call when changing duty stations. The address was a street address in Montgomery, but in those days many USAF personnel with families could be found living off the bases. I didn't ask if there might have been a listing for WN4DSE prior to Fall 54, but I may do that.

If anyone has some REALLY old Callbooks and could take a look, I'd surely appreciate it. I wonder if perhaps this call might have been held by someone who went to war and didn't return...?
