[Hallicrafters] SX-42 Bandspread Window Color

Both versions, light gray and dark gray (black?) are normal production. 
I've seen both but have no idea what determined the color.  Chuck's book 
doesn't mention it, but he shows the lesser SX-43 with a dark window so 
maybe the later SX-42's used the same dark color..

SX-42 I have here, it is stock, has bandspread window painted a gray with a
slight green tinge to it, darker than the front panel gray.

I have seen different pictures of SX-42's with the bandspread window frame
painted black and others gray. What is the correct answer (or is it either)?

one I am working on is black and needs repainting and I want to do it
correctly.
