[Hallicrafters] Help With HT-32A - sneaky transformers

That's an interesting comment Jack.
Transformers can be partially shorted, immediately blow a fuse and cause you
to foam at the mouth and say potty words with your outside voice.
But still be useable
Here's what happened to me recently: My 516F2 power supply on the S-1 S
line started blowing fuses immediately at turn on. The cause was the
capacitor wired across the choke in the plate supply had shorted to ground.
Replaced the cap and turned the supply on again. Ran for about a half hour
OK then PooF!, fuse blew. Traced it down to the 5 v winding for the 5R4
rectifier filaments. So I solid stated the B plus and HV with strings of
1N4007's and the little bugger works just fine now. Interesting no?
By the way my Eldico SSB 100F transmitter has needed absolutely nothing in
the repair or maintenance department. It's like the energizer bunny, it
just keeps going!
