Replace the paper capacitors!
The Hallicrafters S-107 is actually a pretty good receiver for what it cost in 1958. I used one as a Novice Class and early General Class in 1959. Unlike a number of the other fairly inexpensive receivers of the day, it is actually pretty sensitive on 15-meters, 10-meters, and even on 6-meters. I now have 2 S-107 receivers and have measured the LDS/MDS using service monitors.
Of course, it is basically a "re-boxed" S-53A.

Subject: [Hallicrafters] hallicrafters S-107
Hello, I have a Hallicrafters S-107 that is all original. Even the tubes have Hallacrafters on them.
It also plays fine. I think I need to put in new electrolytic capacitors under the chassis to be sure there is no power supply problems. But do I need to change all the Tiny Chief capacitors? I read on the internet that they were higher quality then others used in the 60s.
On the 1930s radios I work on I change all the paper and electrolytic capacitors.
Thanks Tom
