My opinion is this:

GO UP.  Build a shelf above whatever radio is on your bench now and  
put both sets of radios into operation.

Sure, it's a fallacy that we need a "standby" station.
Sure, lots of radios may not be good for domestic bliss,

BUT:  It's been reported many times that soon after selling a nice old  
radio, the seller wishes he/she hadn't!
