I have found that the LDS, least discernible signal, is really more meaningful than doing a S+N/N measurement. Other than that, I basically agree with the test parameters.

I use service monitors with accurately calibrated attenuators when servicing receivers, have Tektronix oscilloscopes, etc.

The comments I have read so far on this matter have all been pretty subjective. The real measure of the "quality of a receiver" is the sensitivity, selectivity, gain, and S+N:N ratio. The only way to test this performance is with calibrated test equipment. So to settle this issue those who own the various rigs in question should take them to a second party with calibrated equipment and get the rigs tested. Then post the results. We can build a database of the results and settle the question. Any one living in the Kansas City area can bring their rig to my shop and I will test and post the results, NO CHARGE. I would encourage all who have the proper equipment to do the same in their area.  The tests are simple and can be performed without getting inside the rigs.
