I wound up using a regular 1/4 inch Hallicrafters knob
with an adaptor for the smaller shaft for an S-40A The same
knob is used on the S-40/A/B. It has about a 1/8th inch bore
and has something to hit the stop tab on the panel. I've
never seen an original. I made the adaptor from a section of
thick wall aluminum tube from the hobby shop by drilling out
the center hole to the right diameter and cutting a hole to
clear the set screw. The stop can be made by glueing a bit
of plastic inside the knob skirt.
It would be interesting to know if H made a special knob
or used an adaptor. I asked on a couple of forums but never
got an answer. Someone _must_ have an S-38 or S-40 or other
model that used this knob and be able to answer.
