I took the front panel off and found that the Pointer Reset knob and
shaft was connected to a pawl that pushed the entire pointer assembly
left or right along a slide. The slide is assembled with 2 loose
fitting screws with nylon washers to allow it to slide easily. Someone
had really torqued those 2 screws down tighter than Dick's hatband. It
might have slid some if whacked with a sledge hammer! I loosened up the
two screws and it now works as advertised.

I brought the old girl up on a Variac and it began to make noise, but
the 1st local oscillator was not working. This is the tube that the
filament stays on even when the power is switched off. I had read that
you need to be prepared to replace the tube every year or so. It is a
12BY7 (which are not cheap). I put a new one in and it now plays pretty
good.

When I recap a receiver, I usually buy the capacitors from Dave at DH
Distributors in Witchita. I can't raise him on his landline. Is he
still in business?

Thanks,
Larry W4LK
