Hi Larry,
	Nice find.  That is a mechanical adjustment, tied to the pointer string 
IIRC, shouldn't have any backlash.
	If you want to know about all there is to know on refurbing it, you 
oughta get, if you don't have ER, the several part article in ER mag 
that appeared a few yrs ago.  Don't remember just which issues, abt 4, 
but they are available frem ER.
