I've been running them in the audio deck of my KW-1 transmitter for
several years without problem. A buddy has used them in his Heathkit
rebuilds and several others. No problems.

Maybe they were run over voltage at some point or it was a bad batch?
I seem to remember hearing that early attempts were spotty until they
got the equipment set up and dialed in properly. But that was many
years ago.
