Yes boyz - the days of a pair of Narco MK-XII's and a Bendix ADF are gone.
Take a look at the GARMIN website for avionics - makes the old RNAV look
like a dinosaur by comparison. About 7 years ago, I went up to Northern
Canada on a fishing trip (of a lifetime), and when I hopped into the C-180
on floats, all he had was a Garmin GPS-II+ (aviation version), mag compass
(which was off), RPM, Manfold press, & supp. gauges (the artifical horizon
was long dead). He was tired (up since 0300), so finding out I was an
airplane driver too, he let me take it up to the lake while he snoozed.
Once you get used to trusting the thing, it was cake - I was hooked.
NDB's are fun to listen to at night, while they warble, but the KISS method
is the best.

Had a 2m rubber duckie, mounted on a lower-wing "access plate" - I'd simply
replace the plate for a given trip, and joila', an antenna without hassle.
