Bill, if you can find a way to place a piece of stiff cardboard across
the front, it couldn't hurt. Maybe wrap in with a layer of small
bubble wrap or other that white foam wrapping paper so it doesn't
chafe the paint. The trick would be to have it fairly tight up against
the front so as not to allow anything to impact the glass, with little
or nothing between it and the glass. That way it can't press against
it.

I've had good luck in the past just stuffing a piece of cardboard or
similar in front as a shield. Can't hurt.
